Our Power Our Planet
Earth Day is recognised globally as a moment to reflect on how we interact with the world around us and the role organisations play in shaping long‑term outcomes.
The theme this year, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, places focus on the impact organisations and industries have through everyday decisions. It highlights how influence, responsibility and long‑term thinking can shape environmental outcomes at scale.
Earth Day and The Technology Industry
In a technology‑led environment, sustainability is closely linked to how systems are designed, operated and supported over time. Decisions around infrastructure, platforms, working practices and suppliers may not always be visible, but they play an important role in shaping efficiency, energy use and environmental impact in the long term.
For organisations like us, these considerations are particularly relevant. Hotel technology supports ‘always‑on’ environments. From networks and cloud platforms to security, communications and operational systems, all of which rely on resilient, well‑maintained infrastructure. How this technology is delivered, supported and evolved over time matters. The technology industry therefore has an important role to play within the wider Earth Day movement.
Our Approach as a Hotel Technology Company
At TMB, Earth Day provides an opportunity to reflect on how we operate as a hotel technology company and where sustainability considerations sit within our wider decision‑making. Across the business, this includes taking a cloud‑first approach where appropriate. Compared with traditional on‑premise infrastructure, cloud platforms can help reduce the reliance on physical hardware onsite and limit the need for regular maintenance visits and specialist cooling systems. As cloud providers continue to invest in more efficient data centre operations, this approach can form part of longer‑term thinking around infrastructure efficiency.
We also consider sustainability within our working practices. A remote working environment, alongside a growing electric vehicle fleet, helps reduce day‑to‑day travel requirements where possible and supports a more flexible way of operating across service and support teams. These choices are not one‑off initiatives, but part of a broader effort to review how we work and identify sensible, practical ways to reduce unnecessary resource use over time.
Wider Environmental Initiatives
Alongside this operational focus, we continue to support wider environmental initiatives where we can. This includes our ongoing partnership with Treeapp, contributing to global tree‑planting projects that support environmental regeneration and community development.
Looking Beyond Earth Day
We continue to review and improve our approach to sustainability as part of how we operate as an organisation — with a focus on awareness, engagement and long‑term thinking.
